Homemade
As a general rule of thumb, nothing beats homemade. That is especially true with refried beans! Toss out those cans and bring the authentic Mexican restaurant right into your home. These Instant Pot Refried Beans bring both quality and convenience to your kitchen. The addition of cumin and smoked paprika give these beans that rave-worthy smoky taste.
Convenient
Now, your Mexican grandmother will probably scold me for saying this, but you don’t need to soak your beans. Soaking beans does reduce cooking time, allow for the best texture, and result in fewer split open or cracked beans. In our case, the Instant Pot is reducing the cooking time, and the beans are being pureed, not served whole, so the benefits to soaking beans aren’t especially applicable in this case. Save yourself the hassle and let these Instant Pot Refried Beans save your time and energy without sacrificing flavor.
Pureed
For an ideal smooth texture, I strongly recommend using an immersion blender, regular blender or food processor as opposed to mashing them by hand. I love my Kitchen Aid Immersion Blender! It is used all the time in my kitchen and everytime I make refried beans! Linked here is the set that I own: KitchenAid KHB2351CU 3-Speed Hand Blender – Contour Silver, 8 inches (paid link). As well as just the immersion blender alone (without the other attachments): KitchenAid KHB1231CU Hand Blender, 2-Speed, Contour Silver (paid link).
